Larrabee's Point (VT) Warehouse (1823)
home based business
State Route 74, Shoreham, Vermont USA • The warehouse is owned by Mahlon and Gena Teachout who operate the "Carillon" tour boat around the southern end of Lake Champlain. The building, [now called Teachout's Lakeshore Store], along with a wharf, was constructed in 1823. – From steve-world.com, a fine link with some historical images, c.1860.

Shoreham is primarily an agricultural community of orchards, dairy and niche farms, and numerous commercial endeavors, as well as an increasing number of smaller home-based businesses. Shoreham is also home to the “Fort Ti” Ferry, one of oldest ferries in the US, in continuous operation between Shoreham and Ticonderoga, N.Y., since 1788. – From the Town's website.

From rootsweb, here's some background on John LARABEE came from New London county, Conn., in 1783, and settled on the farm now owned by Myron PLATT. He was a well-educated man, and a surveyor. His son, John S. LARABEE, came from Pownal, Vt., in 1783, at the age of nineteen years, and lived four years with his father, after which he cleared a place on Larabee's Point, then called Rowley's Point, where, with the exception of six years passed in Middlebury as clerk of the County Court, he remained the rest of his life. He established the first ferry at Larabee's Point, under legislative grant, and managed it during his life. He held at different times the office of town representative, clerk of the County Court six years, judge of probate and of the County Court. He died on November 28, 1847, aged eighty-two years.

You are invited to stay and browse through my stream. Here's a quick index to my little corner of Flickr:

Automobile Photographs
: This is a very large collection of images whose primary, but not exclusive, focus is on American automotive classics. Images are organized by decade, by manufacturer, and by topics (such as convertibles, station wagons, muscle cars, etc.)

Central Illinois (except Springfield)
: Central Illinois (except Springfield): Photos relating to the middle section of the "Land of Lincoln" (except for the Capital City of Springfield) may be found in this collection. Every city and town I've photographed is contained within its own set, and rural (as in "counrtyside") photographs are grouped by county.

Springfield, Illinois
: All of my photographs of Springfield and the Abraham Lincoln Sites are in this collection. For the City of Springfield, there are separate sets for the Capitol Complex, Downtown (including the Old State Capitol), Neighborhoods, Parks, Illinois State Fairgrounds (and past State Fairs), and more. Photographs of Lincoln sites include the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, Lincoln Home National Historic Site, Lincoln Tomb, and so on. Also in the Lincoln "All About Abe" (Set) are a few Lincoln sites not located in Springfield.

The Illinois State Fair
: My collection of photographs of the Illinois State Fair. The fair offers something for everyone. Grab a corn dog and lemon shake-up, and come take a look!

Beyond Central Illinois
: Other locales in the United States and Canada including New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Seattle.

In addition to my location-based sets, here are links to some "topical" collections and sets I've put together:

Barbers & Barber Shops
: Traditional barbers and barber shops are on the endangered species list. But there are still plenty to be found if you go looking for them.

Almost Everything Else. Check It Out!!!
: Included topics range from man's first walk on the moon to small town schools and churches, and from Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers (our favorite breed) to things that are abandoned, neglected, weathered, or rusty.

Thanks for stopping by! - myoldpostcards (Randy von Liski)

Cpl. Chris M Rodriguez, 22, civil affairs noncommissioned officer for CA Team 1, 11th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 2, plays with Mitra, the daughter of Khwaja Sabor, a nurse with the de-miners, (Afghan improvised explosive device and mine clearers), during a visit to Mohammed Younus home in Now Zad, June 14. Younus, and his family, were reportedly the first family to return to Now Zad in early January after nearly four years of fighting in the area. The CA Marines want Younus to become a third party micro grant liaison between the Marines and Afghans who are interested in applying for a micro grant. Younus would be responsible for preparing the Afghans applications prior to being submitted. The micro grant program here is a program that grants money to Now Zad residents who are interested in opening up their own business, but lack the necessary money to do so. There is a potential for up to 00 grants for those who qualify. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Shawn Coolman)

The Kleeneze option
In today's society, a secure income - a job for life - may no longer be available from conventional employment. If you have suffered redundancy, and particularly if you are over 40, you may know how difficult this can be. Most people will admit to being dissatisfied with their level of income, especially in relation to the free time they enjoy.
The current trend of working from home, part-time working and job-sharing is an indication of how many people wish to escape the "employment trap".

Home Office - My Desk - Old 2005
home based business
UPDATED: This photo is over five years old and is out-dated. If you are interested in seeing what my half of our office looks like Click Here. I've switched almost entirely over to Mac and things are a lot simpler overall.

Old Description of Office as it Was in 2005:
I spend a lot of time here. It's my half of our home office (my wife has the other half). I work out of my house about 40% of the time, and my wife works out of the house in the evenings and weekends. We both work a good bit... so we are in this room more than any other in our house.

Anyways, my side of our office is filled with tech stuff. I have two large tower cases (one is a server, the other is my desktop), my work laptop, my personal laptop and my Macinotsh G4.

These machines connect to another group of computers in my basement (I have six runs of CAT5e cabling between my 2nd floor office and basement). I run my firewall (Smoothwall), two test linux systems, and another Windows XP machine running next to my music/audio stuff, all out of my basement to avoid the complete geek overrun of the office. In fact soon the server and desktop machines will also move to the basement and into a custom rack enclosure (along with my other mess of boxes downstairs) I will then build another AMD dual core system to be my desktop computer. As my current desktop is headed to be a virtualization server (VMWare) which will act as a test bed /home lab for me.

All the fast stuff connects via gigabit ethernet (Server, Main Desktop, G4 Macintosh, downstairs XP machine and my wife's HP nc8230 laptop), the other stuff has to stay in the slow lane with fast ethernet connections, or wireless connections if I feel like walking about.

Click here to see a photo of our book case on the other side of the room.

Here is a link to the photo of my real office which isn't nearly as exciting.

NOTE: This photo made it into Flickr's 'Explore" as one of the top five hundred most interesting photos on a particular day. You can see all of my photo's that have made it into the Flickr Explore pages here.
