Horizon House (Portsmouth, Scioto County)
Total estimated project expenditures: .9 million
Estimated qualified rehabilitation expenditures: .1 million
Total value of credit: ,543,630
The Horizon House was originally built in 1906 as the Joseph G. Reed Company, a wholesale notion and dry goods business. A 1981 rehabilitation converted the building into residential senior living. The project will consist of the rehabilitation and renovation of the existing 50 senior-restricted (55+) studio, one-, and two-bedroom government subsidized units. The rehabilitation proposal for Horizon House seeks to return some of the historical elements to the building by highlighting historic features covered in previous rehabilitation efforts.

W. C. Durant / Durant-Dort Carriage Company (back)

William C. Durant and his business partner, J. Dallas Dort, completed this building in 1896. It was originally the headquarters of the Durant-Dort Carriage Company, one of the largest volume producers of horse-drawn vehicles in the United States at the turn of the century. Many of the decisions that led to the birth of General Motors, now the world's largest automobile manufacturer, took place here. A
fter the carriage firm ceased operations in 1917, this building was headquarters of the now defunct Dort Motor Car Company until 1925. The Durant-Dort Carriage Office Building is the last structure in Flint linked to "Billy" Durant's pioneer efforts in automobile manufacturing.
